William Robert Walker Jr., of Lillian, died July 9, 2007.
He was born Sept. 12, 1946. He grew up in Tuscaloosa and graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1964. He received B.S. and M.A. degrees from the University of Alabama, a M.A. degree from Salve Regina College in Newport, R.I., and a M.A. degree from the University of West Florida.
He enlisted in the Alabama Army National Guard at 17 and rose to the rank of 1st Lieutenant, then entered the Aviation Officer Training School in Pensacola, Fla., in 1974. He ended his Naval career, having served over 34 years of combined military service.
He was a lifelong learner who enjoyed travel and friendships acquired throughout his military career.
Survivors include his former spouse, Jan Walker; a son, Regan (Dusty) Walker; a daughter, Laura (Owen) Lyons, all of Mobile; brother, James M. “Pete” Walker; two uncles, Beasor B. Walker and William I. McLain; aunt, Eunice Clements; nephews and nieces; and many friends, both locally and nationwide.
A private burial was held at Barrancas National Military Cemetery.
