Waffles R Wild coming to downtown Foley this summer

Waffles R Wild Speakeasy will soon open a new location in downtown Foley.

The restaurant and bar, which already has another location down the road on the OWA campus, is setting up shop at 217 N. McKenzie St., where Scallywag's Pizza used to be. Owner Danielle Duemmel told GCM they are hoping to be open as soon as July.

"We love downtown Foley," Duemmel said on expanding the business. "It has that small-town feel, but it's one of the biggest growing cities there is in the United States, so it kind of has both of that."

The establishment first started in Rochester, New York, as a food truck, serving food with a waffle twist such as burgers and chicken sandwiches with waffles as the buns. They have since grown into a full restaurant and bar, having made their way down to the Gulf Coast, opening their OWA location in 2024.

With the new downtown Foley location, Duemmel said the front of the building will serve as a country-style diner with a hidden door behind a bookcase that will serve as the entrance to a Prohibition-themed bar in the back. A passcode will be needed to get in.

Some of the specialty cocktails patrons can get include an old fashioned, French 75 and gin Rickey along with mimosas and bloody Mary's during breakfast and brunch. However, Duemmel emphasized that they are also a family-friendly environment, saying they will be adding mocktails so everyone can have a good experience.

Waffles R Wild will also be a place for live music, trivia and poker nights.

"The City of Foley has just welcomed us with open arms," Duemmel said. "... Just the community aspect of it; I've never experienced that before and it's really awesome, so we're excited to be a part of downtown Foley."
