GULF SHORES, AL - Gulf Shores High School had received nearly 8,000 votes in the State Farm 'Celebrate my drive' initiative as of Thursday morning.

State Farm Insurance’s “Celebrate My Drive” campaign during National Teen Safe Driving Week will include a place to vote for your school to help receive the funding. Vote for Gulf Shores at is www.celebratemydrive.com.

“The community support has been outstanding," Drivers' Education Teacher Marcus Early said. "Thousands of people have already gone online & committed to drive safely from our local area.

"In fact, Gulf Shores and Foley High Schools have both ranked in the top 100 since Monday – which is remarkable considering there are more than 3,500 schools participating throughout the United States & Canada.

There are two more days to cast a vote and make a safe driving committment, Early said.

"We are asking for everyone to continue to make commitments daily throughout Oct. 26.Since both high schools fall into the Large School Category, they must rank in the top 50 in their group to win the grant money. I know our community can do this.”

Agent Frances Holk-Jones of State Farm has noticed the committment and support of both communities.

"The effort and the support from the Cities of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach has been amazing," she said. "We have met with city officials from Gulf Shores and Orange Beach along with several community members on mulitple occasions to discuss the 'Celebrate My Drive Contest.' We have wonderful people in GS and OB that love our schools and our students."
