Voncile Thompson Lackey, 82, a native of Stockton and a resident of Spanish Fort, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2010 at Oakwood Nursing Home.

She was a teacher (retired) for 31 years at the Adult and Community Education at Barton Academy; was a teacher at Glendale Elementary in 1949 and later at Prichard Jr. High School. She held memberships with B.F.A., A.E.A. and N.E.A.

She was a member and organist of Stockton Presbyterian Church and Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church; also choir director at Stockton Presbyterian Church; the activities director for 15 years at West Minster Village.

She was well known throughout her life for her good wit, good peach cobblers, story telling and simply a love of the rewards of hard work.

Survivors include her husband, Charles W. Lackey Sr. of Spanish Fort; son, Charles W. (Pam) Lackey Jr. of Canton, Ga.; daughter, Sherra (Durand) Kelley of Stockton; seven grandchildren, Annie Lackey (Noah) Garner, D.J. (Barbara) Kelley, Chuck (Allison) Kelley, Ross (Virginia) Kelley, Katie (Brian) Douty, Matthew (Jamie) Kelley and Clifford Kelley; and four great-grandchildren, Sam Kelley, Connor Kelley, Abby Kelley and Emily Douty.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3 at Norris Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 at the Stockton Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mike Mann officiating. Burial will follow at Stockton Memorial Cemetery.
