ROBERTSDALE, Alabama -- Frank Ingram wasn’t exactly expecting a pleasant experience when he went to his dentist on Monday.
The 79-year-old Foley resident, a retired educator from Jefferson County, went to Robertsdale Dental Care to have an implant installed in preparation for new dental plates, a procedure that took more than two hours.
But when Ingram, who uses a scooter to get around, came out the back door of the Robertsdale business, he found something that brightened his day, a 2012 Kawasaki Brute Force four-wheeler.
“I’m overwhelmed,” was about all Ingram could say after his prize was revealed.
The prize is part of the VIP Referral Program offered by doctors Jason Northcutt, Jeremy Hardy and Joel Green at Robertsdale Dental.
“We give prizes every quarter,” said Shannon Bankester, marketing coordinator with Robertsdale Dental Care. “Then at the end of every year, we draw for a main prize.”
According to the business’s website, robertsdaledental.com, patients earn incentives for every patient they refer who uses Robertsdale Dental. One to two referrals earns a $10 Starbucks gift card while three to four referrals earns a $50 Pizza Hut gift card.
With five or more referrals, the patient earns VIP status which includes VIP Parking, a VIP window decal and yearly dinner with the team.
With five to nine referrals the patient receives a $100 gift card to either Best Buy, Bass Pro Shops, Publix or Target. With more than 10 referrals, the patient earns VIP Platinum status with VIP Platinum benefits, a VIP Platinum discount card, a VIP Platinum T-shirt and a $150 gift cart to the business of one’s choice for every patient referred.
When the business held its open house last week, a drawing was held for the prize, which was purchased from Hall’s Motorsports in Daphne. The person who won was not present to claim the prize and attempts to contact the winner were unsuccessful, Bankester said.
So the prize was redrawn and Ingram had the winning ticket. Neither he nor his wife Pat knew about the prize until it was revealed after his visit on Monday.
“We received a call last week that we had received some gift certificates, but we thought we hadn’t won the main prize,” said Pat Ingram. “We were certainly disappointed.”
But now, the couple says, they will use the prize to further spoil their two grandchildren.
“They will certainly get a lot of use out of it,” Pat Ingram said.
