Viral World Cup fan calls Fairhope favorite stop in America

During the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a German soccer fan went viral for posting about his experiences visiting the United States during the tournament.

A user on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, known as FreddyLA7 is a German superfan who has gone viral online for documenting his experiences traveling in America and his observations of American culture during a six-week trip amid the FIFA World Cup this summer. FreddyLA7, or simply Freddy, has so far attained over 762,000 followers.

Now back at home, Freddy, who has managed to keep his real identity anonymous, took time to answer some questions about his trip.

"Because many people have been asking us about it: our favorite states from the trip were Tennessee, Alabama and Texas," Freddy said in a post on July 27. "Our favorite town was Fairhope, Alabama, and our favorite food spot was Taco Bell."

Freddy stayed one night in Fairhope while driving to Houston, Texas, to catch Germany's game against Curaçao. While in Fairhope, he posted a video driving by Mobile Bay, getting a first-hand glimpse of Fairhope's iconic sunset views.

If you missed out on his adventures over the summer, worry not. Freddy says he is planning to come back to America later this year on a road trip planned for this fall during the football season, visiting college football games while also checking out other American events, including Oktoberfest in Helen, Georgia, the Texas State Fair and the Breeders' Cup series of horse races.
