Violet Delora “Dee” Cooper Robinson Cheek passed from this life on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013 in Foley.
She was born April 1, 1920, in Robbinsville, N.C. to the late Mollielou Bessie Ayers and John Russell Cooper.
Dee was preceded in death by husbands, Wilford M. (Bill) Robinson and William F. (Bud) Cheek; her beloved son, Lee Robinson; a great-granddaughter, Meghan Ledford; a brother, Glenn Cooper; and sisters, Gladys Cooper Finnell and Elsie Cooper Binney.
Mrs. Cheek is survived by a daughter, Vesta Faye Robinson Cook and husband Jerry of Gulf Shores; grandchildren, Chris (Theresa) Ledford and Susan (Steve) Lewis; and four great-grandchildren of Kennesaw, Ga.
Also left to cherish special memories of Mrs. Cheek are the children and grandchildren of her second husband, Bud Cheek, who still lives in the Polk/Monroe County, Tenn. area. They include Garvin Cheek and son, Ty, Janette (Charles) McClure and Margie (E.L.) Bowers, along with sons John and Jason Qualls and Sarah Kincaid.
Others who will remember her fondly are a niece and several nephews, as well as special friends and caregivers, Wanda and Don Haynes.
After a 37-year career as postmaster in Turtletown, Tenn., Mrs. Cheek moved to Sweetwater, Tenn. to be near her son, Lee.
She remained a member of NARFE (National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association) and was named Honorary National Life Member of the organization.
Accompanied by former daughter-in-law, Renee (Gibert) Richie, Mrs. Cheek was able to visit her longtime friend and fellow postmaster, Mamie Murphy of Coker Creek, Tenn. shortly before her death. The two 93-year-old friends enjoyed reminiscing about the good times they had attending postal conventions over their long careers.
Mrs. Cheek was also able to attend the annual Bachman Memorial Home Reunion during this visit. Bachman remained close to her heart throughout her lifetime.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at Farner Presbyterian Church in Farner, Tenn. on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014 at 3 p.m.
