DAPHNE, Ala.—Village Point Park Preserve Nature Trail was one of 41 trails honored with a National Recreation Trail designation, the Alabama Department of Environmental Management announced Thursday.
Village Point in Daphne is located along Scenic U.S. Highway 98 and has bay access. The park is also the home of the Jackson Oak, which local believe was where Andrew Jackson addressed his troops in 1813 before marching on to Pensacola. The trail in the park is 1 mile long.
The U.S. Department of the Interior selects exemplary trails of regional significance for the designation in hopes of encouraging the use of existing trails and development of new trails.
Village Point Park Preserve Nature Trail will receive a plaque to place on the trail and will be promoted as well.
