Armand Harrison Vilain, born June 24, 1920, New York, lived most of his life in Los Angles, then later moved to Fairhope, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 at the William F. Green Veterans Residence in Bay Minette.

He served in World War II as a Naval officer, and in Korea and Vietnam as a merchant mariner. He retired as chief engineer on the Oil Super Tanker U.S. Overseas Vivian in 1984.

He was preceded in death by stepdaughter, Charlotta McKenzie.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte McCue Vilain of Fairhope; son, James Pierre (Rebecca) Vilain of Mobile; sister, Phyllis Grosso of Long Beach, Calif.; step-children Gwen (James) Robinson, Claire (David Milligan) McKenzie, Kaye (Boyd) Langley, Monica (Bob) Pepper, Elroy (Daphne) McKenzie III and Matthew (Cristie) McKenzie, all of Baldwin County; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A Masonic memorial graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7 at Brook-Cedron Cemetery.
