Vietnam veterans will honor POWs and MIAs

Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc. Chapters 701 and 864 will hold a Prisoner Of War Missing In Action Ceremony after membership drive on Sept.17, 2010.

The day is National Prisoner Of War Missing Action Recognition Day. The Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) Chapter 701 in Mobile County and Chapter 864 of Baldwin County will have a membership drive at the Lower Alabama Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Battleship Park starting at 1700 hrs (or 5 p.m. to civilians.) 

At 1830 hrs (6:30 p.m.) the VVA will host an Evening of Prayer offering to those veterans whom did not come home and their families.

This is the 30th year National POW/MIA Recognition Day has been observed. The Vietnam veterans want to invite the public to come and pray for the POW’s/MIAs who did not come home and for their family members.

The program headlines local pastors and veterans whom will lead prayers.

Rev. John Holleman from Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Rev. Kathy Jorgensen from Dauphin Way Methodist Church, Ron Pearce, Chaplain FBI/Mobile County Sheriff Dept. and Val Obregon, Nation Chaplain VFW/Alabama State Board of Veterans Affairs will attend. The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m.

All Vietnam and Vietnam-era veterans serving between February 28, 1961 to May 5, 1975 with a DD-214 form are eligible for membership into the VVA.

All those veterans are invited to come and to bring their families to the Lower Alabama Vietnam Veterans Memorial and join our organization.
