DAPHNE, Ala. — Daphne High School’s Beauty Walk 2011, presented by the Girls Service Club, took place Saturday night in Trojan Hall.
The theme was “The Wonderful World Of Disney.” Participants and the crowd braved unusually cold temperatures to see 26 GSC members compete for their individual class crowns as well as Queen Daphne.
In the end, Daphne High Senior Veronica Ginn was named Queen Daphne. Other winners included Freshman Beauty Aubrey Wiggins, Sophomore Beauty Monea Robertson, Junior Beauty Blair Byron and Senior Beauty Catlin Jackson.
Club President Rebekah Ross was the mistress of ceremonies and introduced all the girls participating.
Each contestant was required to perform a skit that she wrote, dressed as a Disney character. Each participant was responsible for making the costume she wore in the skit.
Winner of the best costume was junior Emily Nix, who was dressed as Gus the mouse from “Cinderella.” Ginn dressed as Piggy from the “Toy Story” and her skit featured Piggy rapping to an original tune written by Ginn.
In addition to the individual skits, the beauties were judged on their poise and appearance. Dressed in formal attire, they walked the stage in front of the event’s judges that included Fox 10 meteorologist Chasity Byrd.
In addition to the class beauty and best costume awards, contestants won awards for best interview, best skit, best poise, most ad sales and the spirit award.
