Vernon Dalhart Wilson, 79, born in Castleberry and a resident of the Pine Grove community of Bay Minette, died Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope.
He was a millwright and welder (retired) from J&J Construction Co., Local Union No. 39.
He is survived by his wife, Sadie R. (Stafford) Wilson of Pine Grove; his children, Janie (William) Hall of Bay Minette and Julie (Michael) Walz of Pine Grove; stepchildren, Sheena (Tommy) Byrd of Bay Minette, Terry Hadley of Pine Grove, Vickie (Jerry) Byrd of Crossroads, Deborah (Steve) Morris of Crossroads and Jerry (Christie) Hadley of Stapleton; a brother, Donald V. Wilson of Bay Minette; 10 grandchildren, Joshua Walz, Shyann Everhart, Laura McCaw, Lucas Hall, Jeremy Byrd, Jennifer Morris, Aimee Hadley, Stephanie Wood, Brad Byrd and Austin Hadley; and eight great-grandchildren, Ava, Layla, Weston, John, Lily, Ally, Luke and Jillian.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at 11 a.m., at the chapel of Norris Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Lewis officiating.
Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tom Hodges, Tommy Byrd, Jeremy Byrd, Justin Rabon, Austin Hadley and Lucas Hall.
Honorary pallbearers will be Herman Plato and Major Plato.
Visitation will be Monday, May 26, 2014, from 6 until 9 p.m., at Norris Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Pine Grove Cemetery, c/o Major Plato, 42720-A Pine Grove Road, Bay Minette, AL 36507, or to the Pine Grove Volunteer Fire Department.
