Applications are now open for the 2026-2027 USS ALABAMA Crewmate Program, offering young women in Mobile and Baldwin counties an opportunity to serve as ambassadors for one of the state’s most prominent historic landmarks while earning college scholarships.
USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park began accepting applications Monday, March 30. Interested applicants may download materials at www.ussalabama.com/get-involved/crewmates/ or pick them up at the park’s gift shop, 2703 Battleship Parkway. The shop is open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The application deadline is 4 p.m. Friday, April 17.
The program is open to young women who will be at least 19 years old by March 27 of this year and not yet 21 by that date. Applicants must reside in Mobile or Baldwin County during their service. Full eligibility requirements and qualifications are outlined in the application packet.
Each year, six Crewmates are selected through a competitive process that evaluates poise, application strength, personality and panel interviews. Those chosen represent USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park and the state of Alabama at public appearances and events statewide, serving as goodwill ambassadors for the historic site.
Scholarships are awarded to all selected participants. The titleholder, Miss USS ALABAMA, receives a $3,000 scholarship, while Miss USS DRUM is awarded $2,500. The remaining four Crewmates each receive $2,000 scholarships, which may be used at the college or university of their choice.
There is no entry fee or sponsorship requirement. The USS ALABAMA Battleship Commission provides all official uniforms and accessories at no cost, as well as travel expenses for out-of-town appearances. All events are chaperoned by park officials.
Founded in 1967, the Crewmate program was established as an ambassador initiative for the newly opened USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park. Since its inception, more than 300 young women have participated, collectively contributing thousands of hours of community service while earning scholarship support for their education.
