USDA seeking public input on expanding sweet potato imports from South Korea

Posted

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is seeking public comment on a proposal to expand the import market for fresh sweet potato root from the Republic of Korea to all states.

Currently, imports of Korean sweet potatoes are limited to Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

APHIS said the proposal follows a pest risk analysis and includes specific safeguarding measures designed to prevent the introduction of plant pests. If approved, the expansion would allow Korean sweet potatoes to enter the entire United States under these safety requirements.

The pest risk analysis and related risk management documents are available for public review in the Federal Register for a 60-day comment period ending May 12. Interested parties can view the documents and submit comments at www.regulations.gov by searching for "APHIS-2025-0013."
