DAPHNE, Ala. — The United States Sports Academy’s campus will host
a special art exhibit honoring military veterans on the academy’s
campus at 5 p.m. Nov. 10.

Harry Weber, the 2011 American Sports Art Museum and Archives’
Sport Artist of the Year for sculptures, will showcase his art
honoring those who served their country.

The exhibit will honor the 235th birthday of the U.S.
Marine Corps, while kicking off its annual campaign as a major
drop-off point for Toys for Tots.

Everyone is asked to bring a toy to gain entrance to the exhibit,
which will “help kick off our collecting for 2010,” Leigha Bolton,
communications coordinator for the Academy, said.

“It’s in honor of their birthday celebrating our nation’s heroes,
depicting several of our past wars,” Bolton said.

Weber will display a series of sketches depicting scenes from World
War II, The Korean War, Desert Storm, the Iraq War and the War in
Afghanistan in an exhibit titled “A Warrior’s Sketchbook.”

also presented the Academy with a bronze statue of a soldier
holding up an American flag, entitled “Wounded Warrior.” This
sculpture is being donated in recognition of the Academy’s efforts
to educate the nation’s wounded warriors, Bolton said.

“It will be featured as part of the art show on the 10th in the
main gallery,” Bolton said. “It will remain a permanent part of the
collection.”

Bolton said she does not think the academy has decided where the
statue will sit after the exhibit.

The sketches featured in the art exhibit will be sold to visitors
with the proceeds going to the Academy’s Wounded Warrior
scholarship program, Bolton said, which provides scholarships for
those injured in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
