FAIRHOPE, Ala. - The plight of the Fairhope High School marching band’s perfomance at tomorrow’s Cherry Blossom Parade, which could be cancelled by a government shutdown, was featured this morning on National Public Radio.
Comments by the FHS assistant band director and a student band member were broadcast nationwide today, April 8, on NPR’s “Morning Edition” show.
The FHS band attracted significant national media attention this week after an administration official stated Wednesday that a government shutdown could close national parks and cancel the Cherry Blossom Festival and Saturday’s parade, which has been estimated will draw a crowd of 2 million people to the Washington, D.C. area.
As of this web posting, a budget deal had not been reached by federal officials, and a partial shutdown of the government could follow if a budget is not passed by midnight tonight.
