FAIRHOPE, Ala. - The city of Fairhope will be holding a runoff election in a few weeks to select a mayor and one City Council representative.
According to the unofficial tallies from election officials, incumbent Tim Kant will face challenger Dean Mosher to determine the winner in the mayoral race. Of the 5,427 ballots cast for mayor today, Mosher received 1,282 and Kant, 1,248. Balloting for the other candidates was as follows: Burrell, 493; Gambino, 452; Gentle, 1,085; Valentim, 33; and Warner, 834.
The other runoff race will be for City Council Place 2 in which Incumbent Dan Stankoski will face off with Danny Corte. Stankoski received 2,417 votes; Corte, 2,214. The other candidate for Place 2, Douglas Taylor, received 483 votes.
According to the City Clerk's office of the 11,580 registered voters, 5,437 participated in this municipal election, or 46.95 percent.
In the other council races:
Incumbent Debbie Quinn won the Place 1 election handily. She received 3,374 votes; her challenger, John H. Meyer, 1844.
Incumbent Place 4 Councilman Mike Ford was returned to office with 2,849 votes. His challenger, Phil Brady, received 2,210 votes.
Two newcomers faced off in the Place 5 race and Rick Kingrea emerged the winner with 2,703 votes. Alan T. Hall received 2,297.
