University of Mobile Performing Arts Series announced, season tickets available

The University of Mobile Performing Arts Series features something for everyone, from jazz and classical concerts to Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte opera and the musical Les Miserables. Returning for its 11th season is the university’s popular Christmas Spectacular, a high-energy musical extravaganza that starts the Christmas season on a festive note. The series ends with Spring Spectacular, featuring performances from students in the university’s 22 performing ensembles.

Season tickets are on sale through Sept. 13 and include eight events, five dessert receptions, and Gold Circle preferred seating at all events. Season tickets are $75 and may be ordered by calling the University of Mobile Box Office at 251-442-2383. Discounted rates are available for groups of 10 or more.

Advance tickets to individual events are currently on sale by calling 251-442-2383 or may be purchased at the door at each performance.

Events and individual ticket prices include:

·“A Night to Remember” UMobile Jazz Band – Oct. 3, 7 p.m., Saraland Performing Arts Center. Admission $10. The UMobile Jazz Band under the direction of Kenn Hughes, assistant professor of music, will be an evening of nostalgia and musical memories of the best of jazz.

·“Cosi Fan Tutte” – Nov. 8 and 9, 7 p.m., Saraland Performing Arts Center. Admission $25. This comic opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is a fun and exciting romp about two young men who go to great lengths to impress the girls of their dreams.

·“Christmas Spectacular” – Nov. 22 and 23, 6:45 p.m., Dauphin Way Baptist Church. Admission $5. Featuring more than 200 singers and an orchestra of 100, Christmas Spectacular is a wonderful celebration of the Christmas Season that has become a “must-experience” for Mobile area audiences.

·“Night of the Classical Masters” – Feb. 25, 7 p.m., Dauphin Way United Methodist Church. Admission $5. This concert features the university’s new 40-voice Concert Chorale with a professional orchestra.

·“A Night to Remember” UMobile Big Band Jazz – March 6, 7 p.m., Saraland Performing Arts Center. Admission $10. Celebrate the music of the era of jazz, swing and big band.

·“Les Miserables” – March 21 and 22, 7 p.m., Saraland Performing Arts Center. Admission $25. Based on the novel by French poet and playwright Victor Hugo, with music by Boubill and Schoenberg, the world’s longest-running musical will be presented by UMobile students, alumni and faculty.

·“Mobile Passion Play” – April 11 and 12, 7 p.m., Dauphin Way Baptist Church. Admission is free. Presented in partnership with DWBC, this is the third annual presentation of the Gospel in a musical story of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection.

·“Spring Spectacular” – April 27, 7 p.m., Saraland Performing Arts Center. Admission $15 preferred seating, $10 general admission. This second annual performance features many of the university’s 22 instrumental and vocal groups, with comedy and many surprises.
