United Bank will present the Bay Minette BizTown Youth Summer Camp, a first-of-its-kind regional program designed to teach financial literacy through hands-on learning, in partnership with the city of Bay Minette and Junior Achievement of Mobile.
The three-day camp is set for June 3-5, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bay Minette Middle School, a news release said. The final day will be held at the Bay Minette Civic Center. The program is open to rising fifth and sixth grade students and is limited to 60 participants.
Campers will take part in interactive activities focused on money management, entrepreneurship and the fundamentals of starting and operating a business. The experience also includes meetings with the mayor, VIP-style tours of city facilities, opportunities to connect with local business owners and a visit to a United Bank branch to learn how banking functions in a real-world setting.
United Bank said the initiative reflects its commitment to strengthening financial literacy in the community. The bank noted research showing that early financial education can help individuals build wealth, avoid debt, understand credit and make informed investment decisions. Instruction will follow the Junior Achievement curriculum and be led by experienced banking professionals.
Junior Achievement, the world’s largest organization dedicated to preparing students with the skills and knowledge needed for economic success, is providing the educational framework for the camp.
“I am deeply passionate about equipping our young people with essential life skills as early as possible,” said city of Bay Minette Mayor Josh Brown in the release. “Financial literacy is a cornerstone of long-term success, and I believe that providing beneficial services like this not only strengthens individual futures but also uplifts our entire community.”
The camp is free. For more information, call (251) 929-9484.
