Under His Wings gala offers community an inside look at its mission

Posted

For one evening, guests at the Daphne Civic Center will be invited to see the world through the eyes of a young woman navigating trauma, uncertainty, relationships, identity and the often-challenging transition into adulthood.

Under His Wings Gulf Coast will host its annual A Night to Sow Gala on Tuesday, Nov. 10, offering the community an immersive experience designed to bring the organization’s mission closer to home.

Rather than simply hearing about the work Under His Wings Gulf Coast does, guests will experience the different seasons of life represented across its programs through dinner, testimonies and an immersive presentation.

At the heart of that work are three programs serving young women at different stages of their lives.

Courage Home serves girls ages 13-18 in an intentionally small, relationship-centered residential environment. Safety, stability, education, counseling, discipleship and personal development are central to the program, which seeks to create a foundation for healing and growth.

G.L.E.A.N. serves young women ages 13-23 through counseling, coaching, mentoring and leadership development. The program helps young women understand their created value while developing the tools they need to navigate life with confidence.

For young women ages 19-23 preparing for greater independence, Perseverance Place provides mentorship, career preparation, financial literacy and hands-on life skills.

The programs grew from a need Fairhope OB/GYN Dr. Nena Hunt saw firsthand among her patients. Hunt founded Under His Wings Gulf Coast in 2011 after witnessing the effects of trauma in the lives of young women.

What began with a vision of helping young women find safety and hope has since developed into a local mission built around one fundamental belief: When God allows people to participate in His work, good things happen.

“A Night to Sow gives our community an opportunity to do more than hear about what we do, they get to experience why it matters,” said Arcelia Miller, executive director of Under His Wings Gulf Coast. “The presence of one safe, consistent, intentional adult can change the direction of a young woman’s life. We want our guests to leave understanding not only the challenges young women are facing, but also the incredible impact that happens when a community chooses to invest in the next generation.”

The gala is an opportunity for community members not only to learn more about the organization but also to discover how they can become part of the network supporting young women as they grow strong roots and move toward healthy, purposeful futures.

A Night to Sow will be held Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the Daphne Civic Center. Tickets, sponsorship opportunities and additional information are available at www.underhiswingsgulfcoast.org.
