FAIRHOPE, Ala. – Two new exhibits will open during February’s Art Walk, Feb. 3 and continue on display till Feb. 25 at the Eastern Shore Art Center. “Coastal Celebrations”: Artwork by Judy Oxford and Shelley Smith’s “Persephone’s Fire” join “Bouquets and Local Color” by Nall, which opened last month.
“Coastal Celebrations”
Judy Oxford grew up in this area and has captured its uniqueness in her paintings. Events that shaped Oxford’s life are depicted in her artwork. They include walking on the beaches, crabbing with her family at night and waking up to late night calls that meant only one thing — jubilee. Judy was awarded the “Best of Show” honor at the Eastern Shore Art Center’s 2011 “Members’ Juried Show".
“Persephone’s Fire”
Shelley Smith who resides in Perdido Beach, Alabama, graduated from Rhodes College and the Savannah College of Art & Design. Her art is made from discarded items, scrap metal, diftwood and tin. Her father taught her how to weld which allows her to create bowls, unique chandeliers, jewelry and platters from old 55 gallon drums.
“Bouquets and Local Color”
The combination of Nall’s incredible talent as a draftsman and his creative genius allowed him to produce a diverse body of work ranging from symbolic imagery depicting the dark side of humanity to the beauty found in natural landscapes and botanical subjects. No matter what the subject, his work always leaves the viewer with a memorable impression.
Eastern Shore Art Center is located at 401 Oak St., Fairhope, Ala.
