Two Fairhope women held on Federal theft charges

FAIRHOPE, Ala. - On Thursday, Aug. 5, at approximately 8 a.m., officers of the Fairhope Police Department served a search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of Fairland Avenue. The search warrant sought the recovery of merchandise that had been purchased via the internet using stolen credit card numbers. Victims from several different states reported that their credit card numbers had been used to make unauthorized, on-line purchases. Investigators with the Fairhope Police Department learned that the merchandise had been mailed to the Fairland Avenue address. Detective Sergeant James Gilheart, who led the operation this morning, estimated that the officers recovered in excess of $1,000 worth of clothing and sports equipment. Two adult females were taken into custody at the residence. They are currently being held for federal investigators since the crimes involved the interstate shipment of stolen goods. The names of the females are not being released at this time in order to protect the on-going investigation. Anyone who has experienced a similar unauthorized use of their credit card is encouraged to contact Sergeant Gilheart at the Fairhope Police Department at (251) 928-2385, or their local law enforcement agency.
