U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-AL, chairman of the Senate Education & the American Family Subcommittee, has introduced a resolution recognizing the impact of career and technical education educators and work-based learning coordinators nationwide.
The resolution, introduced during February’s Career and Technical Education Month, highlights the role CTE programs play in preparing students for long-term success in both the classroom and the workforce a news release said. Supporters say high-quality CTE programs strengthen workforce pipelines and help fuel the broader American economy.
Tuberville, a former educator and coach, said preparing students for today’s workforce is more important than ever, particularly as artificial intelligence reshapes industries and job requirements.
“Our schools should make sure students are set up to succeed in life, not just the classroom,” Tuberville said in the release. “AI has changed the game when it comes to today’s workforce. There’s no reason why we shouldn’t be preparing students to be successful in today’s job market starting in high school or even earlier. As Chairman of the Education and the American Family Subcommittee, I’m focused on expanding technical and career educational opportunities for our young people. I’m grateful for Alabama’s career and technical educators who are equipping the next generation with real-world skills that will lead to good-paying jobs.”
Tuberville was joined in introducing the resolution by Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester, D-DE, ranking member of the Senate Education and the American Family Subcommittee, underscoring bipartisan support for CTE initiatives.
Additional cosponsors include Sens. Tammy Baldwin, D-WI, Cory Booker, D-NJ, Katie Britt, R-AL, Ted Budd, R-NC, Shelley Moore Capito, R-WV, Jim Justice, R-WV, Tim Kaine, D-VA, Angus King, I-ME, Amy Klobuchar, D-MN, Ed Markey, D-MA, Adam Schiff, D-CA, Thom Tillis, R-NC and Chris Van Hollen, D-MD.
The resolution has earned endorsements from national education organizations, including the American Federation of Teachers, the Association for Career and Technical Education, Advance CTE and the National Education Association.
