Trojans take on Hoover for 6A title tonight

AUBURN, Ala. – The Trojans and the Buccaneers meet again. Seems like old times to many, but to the Daphne class of 2010-11 and their underclassmen, Hoover is just another good football team. The last time they met was 2005 when these seniors were in the seventh grade. Hoover and Daphne have met four times before in the title game with DHS winning only once in 2001. But anyone who has seen this DHS defense play, knows that trend may change tonight.

No doubt this may be the best team Daphne has faced, so far. On the other hand the Bucs have not faced a defense like Daphne's all year. The Trojans have held all opponents to less than 10 points per game over 14 contests while Hoover's is nearly as good with a ppg allowed of just over 10.

Daphne coach Glenn Vickery said his team has confidence on both sides of the ball, but stopping and scoring on Hoover will be a challenge.

"Hoover is the top football program in the state," he said. "Their football team is the most balanced team offensively and defensively we have faced. On offense they can run and throw the ball effectively. On defense they are very good up front and love to run to the ball with good speed."

Vickery can say that because the Bucs are ranked No. 1 by the Alabama Sports Writers Association who rate Daphne at No. 2.

Tonight, it will be up to the Daphne Trojans to make the ASWA members do a re-write.
