The Treehouse Cafe in Gulf Shores is offering both sweet and savory bites to eat along Highway 59.
Located at 1538 Gulf Shores Parkway within the Square Shopping Center, the establishment is run by business partners Lauren McGowan and Chris White. McGowan, a native of Mobile, said her goal was to create something that feels comfortable and welcoming, describing the cafe as “casual decadence,” giving people coming to and from the beach a spot to pick up a bite to eat.
The Treehouse Cafe has a menu for every season of the year. Food-wise, they serve sweet treats such as eclairs, macarons and petit fours — also referred to as pedaphors in the South — along with a selection of savory foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner, including sandwiches, melts and soups.
On the drink side of the menu, they serve coffee and lattes along with handcrafted herbal drinks filled with a selection of ingredients such as adaptogens, ashwagandha and electrolytes.
Having just opened the doors a month ago, McGowan said she loves being in the kitchen, coming up with new dishes using different ingredients that people bring to her. She said she hopes The Treehouse Cafe can become a staple in the Gulf Shores community for years to come.
“This is something that we’re building that I can pass down to younger family members, like [Chris’s] nieces and nephews,” McGowan said. “Hopefully we’re here for a long time and have very long-lasting employees, and when it’s time for me to go, we pass it down to the employees. I’d love to make it an old school Gulf Shores institution, so that’s my lofty goal.”
Treehouse Cafe is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
