GULF SHORES, Ala. - The Gulf Shores Police Department continues to investigate a fatal traffic collision which claimed the life of a Calera resident Saturday night.
The victim, 64-year-old Linda C. Rutherford, was walking across Alabama Highway 182 in the 500 block when she was struck by a Ford driven by 52-year-old Vicky H. Johnston of Satsuma.
Police Officers and Paramedics were dispatched to the collision just after 9 p.m. Officers arrived and immediately found the victim down with severe trauma injuries. She was transported to a local hospital in grave condition and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Detectives conducting the initial assessment of the scene determined that Johnston was possibly under the influence of alcohol. She was subsequently arrested and booked at the Gulf Shores Police Department Jail for DUI.
