SILVERHILL, Ala. — The Silverhill Town Council conducted routine business at its regular meeting held Monday at the Silverhill Town Hall.
Topping the agenda for Monday’s meeting was a series of ordinances stemming from earlier action taken by the council.
Ordinance 381 approved the annexation of property owned by Charles Collins.
Ordinance 382 approved the franchise agreement for gas with Riviera Utilities, also approved at an earlier meeting.
The council approved payment for the town’s natural gas distribution system from Riviera Utilities in the amount of $175,000 at its July 21 meeting.
Riviera Utilities existing rates will be immediately applied upon closing of the purchase which will result in a decreased monthly bill for a typical existing Silverhill customer, according to an August release by the Foley-based utilities company.
In addition to the initial purchase price, Riviera will pay an annual franchise fee to the Town, offer in-home appliance repair service and offer new services for residents who are not currently gas customers. Natural Gas is a safe, efficient, dependable, and GREEN energy source. For information about natural gas and benefits of gas appliances, visit www.takecomfortinit.com .
Riviera Utilities serves many areas of South Baldwin County with natural gas, electric, water, waste water, and cable television.
Riviera Utilities serves approximately 38,856 electric customers, 3,494 gas customers, 9,567 water customers, 4,584 wastewater customers and 5,980 cable customers in South Baldwin County.
The council also approved Ordinance 383, allowing Wilson to sign a temporary debris removal contract with Baldwin County until a new contract could be put in place.
All ordinances passed unanimously at Monday’s meeting with Wilson and council members Steve Brooks, Jared Lyles, John Ullrich and Shirley Stephens voting for the measure. Council member Michael Allegri Jr. was not present at Monday’s meeting.
The council also voted to update its Code book to add 18 ordinances — including the three passed at Monday’s meeting — at a cost of $23.15 per page.
Town Clerk Bonnie McNeil estimated that each ordinance takes about two pages in the code book. The addition would total about 35 to 36 pages, she said, for a total costs of around $835.
In other business Monday, the council:
— Voted to replinish a $1,500 fund with the Alabama Department of Transportation for maintenance of the signal light at the intersection of Highway 104 and County Road 55.
