FOLEY, Ala. – Spanish Fort’s Toros topped the Foley Lions 66-52 in a tune up for tonight’s Class 5A Area 2 game at Gulf Shores.
The Toros (12-8) visit Gulf Shores tonight at 7:30 p.m.
“It’s going to be tough when you go down to Gulf Shores,” Spanish Fort coach Earnest Hill said. “They’ve got a good fan base. They’ll be ready for us. We beat them in the Christmas tournament and beat them at our place, but it is going to be tough going down there to try and win.”
Hill was glad to get the win over Foley, but was not pleased with the way his team played, especially in the fourth period. Spanish Fort led by as many as 21 points in the third, but was outscored 17-14 in the fourth by the Lions.
“We didn’t play very well,” Hill said. “We did some good things in the second quarter but overall we didn’t play good basketball. We are still having problems in the fourth quarter. Playing sloppy in the fourth and turning the ball over too much. I can understand if we’re getting pressed, but (Foley) wasn’t pressing. We’re just turning the ball over off our offensive sets. If we don’t stop doing that, we won’t be playing postseason.”
Ben Redman led the Toros with 21 points, including 13 in the first period. Tejhuan Billingslea had 15 and Dalton Owens had 10 in the win for Spanish Fort.
For Foley Malcolm Barnett had 13 points, Alontai Adams had 12 and Darius Powell had 11 in the loss.
Foley (3-15) plays an area game at home against Fairhope at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
