SPANISH FORT — The home boys brought it late, but they brought it.

The Spanish Fort Toros never led — until it counted. On the final play of overtime, Derrick Hosch's PAT sailed through the uprights for a 21-20 win over region and county rival Gulf Shores on the Hill Friday night in the Toros' first ever home campus game.

"What a way to break the new stadium in," said Spanish Fort coach Bryant Vincent. "To tie it in overtime and win it on an extra point. What an awesome football game. Give credit Gulf Shores, they played a great game."

Gulf Shores coach Mark Freeman was disappointed with the score but not the effort of his players.

"Just a great high school football game," he said, "I'm proud of my team. I think they played their guts out."

The Dolphins scored first late in the first half on a 15-yard roll-out pass from Logan Paul to Brandon Gottfried and Bryan Beviaqua's point after made it 7-0 at the half.

The Toros threatened earlier but an interception by Dylan Zorn ended the drive.

SFHS came out and tied on a 65-yard series scoring on a one-yard keeper by Patrick

McGavin and Hosch's kick tied it 7-7 with 9:15 in the third period.

GSHS then marched 77 yards to score at 5:55 on another Paul-to-Gottfried toss from 17 yards out and it was 14-7.

SFHS tied it again with 2:44 left in the third when Otis Smith took an option keeper in from the seven.

A Toro fumble with 3:14 left in regulation in the fourth led to an 80-yard drive by the Dolphins who then fumbled at the two which was recovered by Wes Runnels with 30 seconds to go.

The Dolphins took the first possession of the 10-yard playoff overtime series and scored on the first play on one more Paul-to-Gottfried fade. But Aaron Boswell blocked Beviaqua's kick to make it 20-14.

The Toros then went to the three on a Smith keeper to the right. Elijah Peters took it another two to make it third and goal at the one.

McGavin then pushed it in behind the Toros front to tie it and set up Hosch's winning PAT.

The Dolphins play LeFlore next while SF travels to St. Paul's.
