STYX RIVER — A 13-month-old girl was found floating face-down Styx River Saturday afternoon.
According to a report from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, Kylee Mae Waldron was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola via life flight from the area of Linholm Road in the Wilcox area. According to the BCSO, the girl was not wearing a life vest. According to an e-mail from the hospital Tuesday morning, she is in critical condition.
But, there is hope.
According to Tommy Waldrop, the girl’s grandfgather, “They are taking her off the ventilator. They are doing that in steps. They are also reducing her sedation, and they took an EEG (electroencephalograph) and that looks like it was normal, but slow, which they tink is because of the sedation. There was great joy in that hospital, let me tell you.”
Accounts of the incident vary, but according to relatives, the child and her 7-year-old brother was in the care of their father, who is said to manage the launch where canoers and tubers put into the water. He was loading up equipment in the back of his truck.
According to reports, the father was about 40 feet away when the incident occurred.
Attempts to revive the child at the scene were not successful.
