FAIRHOPE, Ala. - The Thomas Hospital Auxiliary named Sarah Johnson as Volunteer of the Quarter for January through March 2012. Since joining the auxiliary 10 years ago, Johnson has volunteered 5,000 hours at the information desk of Thomas Medical Center in Daphne. Because she is also a reliable substitute, Johnson often volunteers two or three shifts per week.
Originally from Selma, Ala., Johnson moved to Fairhope in 1993. Twice widowed, she has two daughters, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of whom now live in the area.
In addition to volunteering, Johnson enjoys reading and gardening. "It's been a real pleasure to greet and assist people at Thomas Medical Center," Johnson said. Nominations for Thomas Hospital Volunteer of the Quarter are made by Thomas Hospital Auxilians, with forms available in the Thomas Hospital Auxiliary office and Thomas Medical Center information desk.
