FAIRHOPE, Ala. - The
Thomas Hospital Auxiliary is seeking students to participate in
their junior volunteer program this summer. This opportunity is
offered to high school students between the ages 14 to 17 with at
least a 3.0 grade point average who have an interest in
volunteering at Thomas Hospital. The goals of the program, chaired
by Thomas Hospital Auxilian Dottie South, are to give service to
the hospital, increase community understanding and interest in the
hospital and further interest in health careers.
"We are looking for
mature students who have good communication skills, a great
attitude, and a desire to learn and accept responsibility," South
said.
"This is a great opportunity for our area students to get involved
in hospital work early in their lives," Melita Willkie, manager of
volunteer services at Thomas Hospital, said. "We look forward to
offering them a wonderful place to volunteer and the opportunity to
provide a valuable service to their community."
Participants are asked
to attend an orientation class, complete a health screening, and
volunteer four hours per week between June 4 and July 27.
Applications are due to the Thomas Hospital Auxiliary office by
April 25 and an interest meeting for students and their parents
will be held May 10. Applications are available in the Thomas
Hospital Auxiliary office, from school counselors at area high
schools, or by contacting Melita Willkie at 279-5525 or
melita.willkie@infirmaryhealth.org.
