Thomas Hospital Auxiliary names Ed Colvin Volunteer of the Quarter

Posted

The Thomas Hospital Auxiliary has named Ed Colvin its Volunteer of the Quarter for the third quarter of 2026, recognizing his more than 1,800 hours of service during the past 11 years.

Colvin began volunteering as a shuttle driver, serving in that role for his first five years before moving to the surgery waiting area. He now volunteers there alongside his wife, Barbara Colvin, who is also a previous Volunteer of the Quarter recipient.

Originally from Birmingham, Colvin worked as an electrical engineer for Alabama Power, living and working throughout Alabama until retiring in 1998.

Ed and Barbara Colvin were friends who briefly dated in high school. After both were widowed and had raised their children, they reunited and married in 2008. They moved to Fairhope the following year.

Colvin has three children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren who live in north Alabama. He enjoys traveling to spend time with family, reading, doing yardwork, playing pickleball and writing about his life.

Colvin said he volunteers at Thomas Hospital because he enjoys helping others and supporting the hospital's employees and physicians. Fellow volunteers describe him as pleasant, cheerful and dependable, saying he consistently goes above and beyond.

Volunteer of the Quarter nominations are submitted by Thomas Hospital Auxiliary members. Nomination forms are available in the Thomas Hospital Auxiliary office and at the Thomas Medical Center information desk in Daphne.
