Do you set a new year's resolution each year? Setting smaller more achievable goals like learning a new skill or trying something new might be a great place to start. Here are a couple of our favorite events this weekend that might help you with that goal.


Winter Showcase Series
What: The 2022 Winter Showcase Series highlights history, nature and local artisans. The series, presented by the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Tourism, runs through February. This week learn more about what the Orange Beach Wildlife Center does and their plans for the future. Meet some of the animal ambassadors and hear how they ended up in the care of the Wildlife Center.
When: Friday, Jan. 21 at 10:30 a.m.

Where: The Port at The Wharf, 4720 Main St., Orange Beach
Price: Advance registration is required but free. Seating is limited to adhere to social distancing recommendations. Visit gulfshores.com to register.


Creative Writing: Nonfiction Workshop
What: Bring your writing ideas and learn how to write short but meaningful nonfiction stories from author and librarian Alan Samry.

When: Saturday, Jan. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Eastern Shore Art Center, 401 Oak St., Fairhope

Fireworks of Jupiter
What: The Mobile Symphony Orchestra will blast into the new year with the "Fireworks of Jupiter". The concert centers on Mozart's "Jupiter Symphony". Jonathan Swensen, the 25-year-old Danish cellist and rising classical star, joins the orchestra for Tchaikovsky's "Rococo Variations".
When: Saturday, Jan. 22 at 7: 30 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 23 at 2:30 p.m.
Where: Saenger Theatre, 6 South Joachim St., Mobile
