MOBILE, Ala. - The 15th Annual Publix Grandman Triathlon will be held this year on Saturday, June 1 at the Fairhope Municipal Pier. There will also be another Jubilee Kids Triathlon on Sunday, June 2.
The Publix Grandman Triathlon begins with racers jumping off of Fairhope Pier and swimming 1/3-mile in Mobile Bay to the shore. Racers exit the water, run up a ladder, and head to the transition area. Following the swim, racers bike 18.6 miles through the charming city of Fairhope, beginning up a steep hill before riding through miles of rolling countryside and along Mobile Bay. After the bike, racers complete a 3.1-mile run through the streets of downtown Fairhope before finishing alongside Mobile Bay. Racers cross the finish line at Fairhope Park.
“What’s so unique about this triathlon is that racers get to jump off of the pier and swim in open water,” said Casi Callaway, Mobile Baykeeper Executive Director and Grandman Race Director. “Safeguarding Mobile Bay for swimmers of all ages is what we do every day at Mobile Baykeeper, so this race is very important to us.”
On Friday, May 31, Mobile Baykeeper starts race weekend with the Lyon Fry Cadden Insurance Agency, Inc. Health & Fitness Expo. It will be at the Fairhope Municipal Pier from 4-7pm, featuring live music, yoga, fitness tests, health exhibits, and more. During this time, vendors will be on site selling merchandise, racers will pick up their packets, and there will be a first-timer training from 6:00 to 7:00.
The Jubilee Kids Triathlon starts on Sunday, June 2 at 7:30 a.m. at the Fairhope Pier. With numerous shops, restaurants, and kid-friendly activities, Fairhope is the perfect race destination for the whole family to enjoy. Parents can race in the Grandman Triathlon at the same site the day before and then watch their kids race the next morning on Sunday.
