Texas State finally broke through, claiming its first Sun Belt Women's Soccer Championship with a 1-0 win over ULM at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex.
This was a redemption run for the Bobcats, who were back in the title match for the second straight year after falling to JMU in 2024.
Both squads came in chasing history — neither had ever won the tournament, and ULM was fresh off the first regular-season crown in program history — and the opening stretch reflected that. The first 15 minutes produced no shots and a lot of cautious possession, with both defenses holding firm.
Texas State eventually settled in as Sadie Guzman forced ULM keeper Jen Handy into a big save in the 31st minute, then nearly scored again before halftime when she ripped a shot off the crossbar. The Bobcats kept pushing after the break and finally cashed in. In the 54th minute, a clean buildup through midfield sent Guzman in behind the ULM back line as she sidestepped the charging Handy and buried the left-footed finish for the 1-0 lead.
A late effort attempt in the 81st minute for ULM sailed over the crossbar as the lone goal from Guzman was just enough to top the Warhawks. Texas State locked down the final stretch to finish off the shutout and punch a ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
The Bobcats would later fall to Baylor 3-0 in the first round of the national tournament.
