GULF SHORES, Ala. – Gulf Shores High School tennis coach Ryan Moss accepted, on behalf of the program, a $1,000 gift from the Gulf Shores Tennis Club on Monday afternoon. This is the second year in a row that the club has made the generous donation.
“We will use the money for both the girls and boys teams at the school to help with the cost of equipment. We really appreciate what this group does for our program,” Moss said. “Tennis is one of those sports where there is no gate charge, so this really helps us financially. It was a big surprise last year, and then we got the call that they were going to do it again this year and we just want to say thank you.”
Moss has coached tennis at Gulf Shores for the past nine years.
“We just want to give back to the community, keep the money in Gulf Shores, and most of all, help the children who play tennis at the high school,” said Kay Bradley, treasurer for the Gulf Shores Tennis Club.
All $1,000 comes from dues pay by the members to be part of the tennis club which is made up of both locals in the Gulf Shores / Orange Beach area and surrounding communities, as well as a number of snowbirds.
“We usually have around 100 to 140 members a year,” Bradley said. “We play on Monday, Wednesday and Friday throughout the year, and when the snowbirds are here, they play on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.”
Gulf Shores Dolphins Tennis will begin practice and matches very soon, with home matches being played at Gulf Shores’ George C. Meyer Tennis Center.
