DAPHNE — Area teens can read for the fun of it as Daphne Public Library celebrates the 10th annual Teen Read Week, Oct. 14-20. They will join thousands of libraries, schools and bookstores across the country that are encouraging teens to celebrate this year’s theme, “Laugh Out Loud.”

Teen Read Week is the national adolescent literacy initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association. This year’s theme encourages teens to read humorous books and graphic novels just ‘for the fun of it.’

To celebrate Teen Read Week the Daphne library will sponsor Comedy Movie Night on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. in the library community room. All area teens are invited to join in the fun and LOL@your library during Teen Read Week 2007.

Daphne Public Library also offers these ideas for celebrating the occasion:

•Parents: Visit your local public or school library with your teen to attend a program or to check out books

•Set aside time each night for the family to read

•Give books or magazine subscriptions to your teen as a gift or reward

•Share your favorite book with your teen

•Surf the Internet with your teen to learn about new books or authors. A good place to start is ala.org/yalsa/booklists/.

•Join a book discussion group at your school or public library.
