Herbert Alfred Tagg, 91, a resident of Fairhope, died Monday, July 14, 2008 at his residence.

He was born on July 25, 1916 in London, England. At an early age, he joined the Royal Corp of Signals and served his country for 15 years, among them being World War II, where he participated in the Middle East, India, and later in Europe, in Germany, France, and Belgium.

In 1951, he immigrated to the United States, settled in New York and worked for Butler Aviation at La Guardia Airport for 20 years. In 1971, he became the manager of the Southampton Club in Southampton on Long Island, N.Y.

Upon retiring from the Club and in search of warmer climates, he chose Fairhope, where he moved with his wife of 37 years.

Survivors include his wife Ladia; mother-in-law, Maria Valenta of Fairhope; son, Andrew Tagg of New York; one grandson, Andrew Peter Tagg of New York; two sisters, May and Maud Tagg of Suffolk, England; various nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces, all of England.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Baldwin Animal Rescue Center, 306 Magnolia Ave., Fairhope, AL 36532 or Mercy Medical Home Hospice, 101 Villa Drive, Daphne, 36526.
