BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Baldwin County District Attorney-elect Hallie Dixon will be sworn in Friday at 9 a.m. at the Baldwin County Courthouse in Bay Minette, and will take office Monday.
“Since July, I have been able to meet in person or by telephone with all the assistant district attorneys and the staff members who have expressed an interest in staying on with me,” Dixon said. “While it is highly unusual for an incoming official to reach out to existing staff prior to taking office, I wanted to start the process early in order to ease the transition.”
Dixon added that she reviewed numerous resumes from professionals wishing to join her office, an effort that already yielded some “very experienced attorneys” who will be joining the team.
“Naturally, there will be some personnel changes and reorganization going forward, as is normal in any new administration,” Dixon said. “However, I am committed to keeping as many of the current staff on board as possible to ensure continuity of services and so we can hit the ground running on the cases I will inherit.”
Dixon said she also has participated in in-depth meetings with Baldwin County Sheriff Huey “Hoss” Mack, county officials and staff, and local police departments to problem-solve and outline shared objectives for the future. “Each meeting leaves us even more encouraged and excited as we recognize so many shared goals for the future of the DA’s Office,” she said.
“One of the best ideas came from my police precinct meetings,” Dixon said. “Law enforcement officers suggested that a lot of time and money could be saved by working out a way to deliver paperwork electronically instead of officers having to leave their posts for hours at a time to drive to and from Bay Minette.
“That idea has grown and eventually will prove to be a much better way to exchange paperwork between the District Attorney’s Office and defense attorneys, too,” Dixon said.
Current District Attorney Judy Newcomb this week provided Dixon and her staff with a key and approved access to the District Attorney’s Office after 2 p.m. Sunday. Dixon said many staff members also will be working long hours Monday to ready the offices for the first official day of business on Tuesday.
