Swafford, Lewandowski crowned Homecoming Queen and King for 2011

Congratulations to Danielle Swafford and Pete Lewandowski on being named as Robertsdale High’s Homecoming Queen and King for 2011. The two were crowned Friday evening prior to kickoff between the Golden Bears and Gators of Satsuma High by last year’s queen, Lexee Bertola.

The queen and king and their court, was made up of Erica Alexander, Hope Carnathan, Roselee Coggin, Rachel Lomax, Autumn Phillips, and Sarah Sawyer from the senior class.

Those vying for king, included Tres Givens, Chase Hadley, Pete Lewandowski, Matthew Maddox, Demetrius McKinney, Tyler Powell and Hunter Vaughn.

This year’s junior maids include Nakea Davis, Sydney Hoover and Weezie Jeffords. The sophomore class representatives are Regan Eakin, Danielle Johnson and Hannah Priestwood. The freshman class maids are Allee Bertolla, Bailey Ellison and Taylor Mitchell. The Homecoming Court was presented again the following evening at the Homecoming Dance, which was held at the Baldwin County Coliseum.

The best Homecoming Door was won by Alecia Benton’s class, with Dr. Cindy Erickson’s placing second, and Amanda Givens and Barry Roberts tying for first place.

The senior class was judged as having the best float in the Homecoming Parade, which was held Thursday. The parade concluded at Honeybee Park, where those cheerleaders who had talked to another student during the day were given a pie in the face by the person they talked to.

“The Homecoming Dance has outgrown the cafeteria, so we had to look around for a place that was much larger,” said RHS Principal Theresa Bryant. “The Baldwin County Coliseum, which we also use for the prom, is much larger, and a whole lot nicer for such an event.”

The RHS Student Government Association would like to thank everyone who participated in this year’s Homecoming Week, whether it had to do with helping create a door, working on a float, dressing up for one of the theme days, or helping decorate the Baldwin County Coliseum for the Homecoming Dance.

We would like to congratulate Stasia May on being named as a National Merit Scholar semi-finalist. May was the only student in the Baldwin County School System to be so honored.

“Stasia worked very hard for this honor,” Bryant said, “and we want to wish her the best throughout the rest of the competition.”

Congratulations are also in order for Trista Phelps and Rachel Starling, two, sophomore members of the RHS cross-country team, for placing first and third recently in the Try-It-On Triathlon, which was held in Gulf Shores.

Phelps won with a time of 1:02, and Starling finished third by turning in a time of 1:11.

The girls swam 300 yards, biked 10 miles through Gulf State Park, and ran a two mile road race along the shore road before finishing at The Hangout.
