Suzanne (Sue) Ruth Phalen Totten, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on Apr. 10, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on Aug. 14, 1946, in Hancock, Michigan, Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents, Clint and Mary Phalen, brother Clint Phalen, and sister Marilyn Rodman. She grew up in Ferguson, Missouri and Walnut Creek, California. After high school graduation, her family relocated to Wilton, Connecticut where she met the love of her life, Ted Totten. They were married on Dec. 9, 1967. Their union was a testament to enduring love, spanning more than 58 years. She is survived by her loving husband, Ted Totten, her daughter Torrie Totten-Kleban, son-in-law Robert Kleban, and grandson Max Kleban. She is also survived by her brother, Chuck Phalen, sisters-in-law Vikke Phalen and Susan Phalen. A true free spirit in her early years, Sue loved to share her joy of music with her beautiful singing voice and playing the guitar. She was an avid reader and after settling in Houston, Texas to raise their family, Sue worked as a Library Assistant for the school district her daughter attended. Sue treasured the companionship of her dear friends and had many laughter-filled marathon sessions with them playing games, particularly bridge. With family always being a life focus, retirement involved moving to the Gulf Coast to be near her daughter’s family. Sue had the joy of 15 years experiencing many cherished times with her only grandchild. Sue was deeply loved by those who knew her and will be greatly missed. A Remembrance Gathering will be scheduled for a later time in Walnut Creek, California.
