Fred Suttles, 83, a native of Westminster, S.C., former resident of Pensacola, Fla., and a resident of Elberta, died Saturday, July 25, 2009 after a short battle with acute leukemia.

He owned Tropical Bar, Brass Rail and Gulf Coast Line & Electric Company. He was a lifelong member of the Elk's Club; and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Suttles and Viola Crump, siblings, Billy Jean Suttles, Ray Suttles, Ruby Estes and Betty Vinson; and his wife, Bessie Rider Suttles.

Survivors include a son, Fred “Sport” Suttles of Pensacola, Fla.; step-daughter, Linda Merideth of Cadiz, Ky.; sister, Sara Dickson of Westminster, S.C.; three brothers, J.B. Suttles of Eldon College, N.C., Jack Suttles of Greenville, S.C., and Furman Suttles of Macon, Ga.; and three grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will bve held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 31 at Greenwood Cemetery in Loxley.

Arrangements are by Mack Funeral Home and Crematory, Robertsdale.
