FAIRHOPE, Ala. — The city of Fairhope is planning a Sundown Celebration on Tuesday, July 28 at the Fairhope Municipal Pier.

On that day, the sun will set in the middle of the Fairhope Pier. This happens twice each year. The first day of occurrance in 2009 was May 18. However, this is the first year for a celebration to mark the event.

Residents are invited to gather at the Fairhope Pier and south end of the Beach Front Park near the reading pond at 7:15 p.m. for a few remarks from Mayor Tim Kant. Maggie Mosteller, director of the Marietta Johnson Museum, will lead participants in singing “Fairhope, I Love You.” Copies of the music will be distributed for those who are not familiar with the song.

Residents should then take their lawn chairs or blankets find a viewing point and enjoy the sunset.
