POINT CLEAR — When the dust settled on Wednesday’s play at Lakewood Golf Club in Point Clear for the Sun Belt Women’s Golf Championship, four teams had clinched their spot in Thursday’s semifinals with a chance to hoist the trophy later that day.

After three days of stroke play, Texas State, Georgia Southern, defending champion Louisiana-Monroe and Old Dominion were the four best teams with 10 individuals in the top 15 rankings. The Warhawks, fresh off their first conference title, will be searching to become the first repeat champions since the Troy Trojans won back-to-back in 2014 and 2015, when the tournament was also hosted in Baldwin County.

Semifinal matches are set for 7:30 a.m. tee times with No. 1 Texas State against No. 4 Old Dominion starting on Hole 1 and No. 2 Georgia Southern against No. 3 Louisiana-Monroe beginning on Hole 10. The championship match is scheduled to follow, starting on Hole 1. Thursday action will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Three-round stats

Hailey Jones, a graduate student from Texas State, was the individual champion with scores of 72-72-67 for a three-round total of 211 at 5-under par.

Other top-five finishers named to the All-Tournament team included freshman Daniela Campillo (214) from ULM, graduate Hannah Karg (215) from Coastal Carolina, sophomore Lucia Gonzalez (216) from Old Dominion, freshman Kasey McIlvaine (218) from Marshall and senior Junia Gabasa (218) from Texas State.

Championship familiar to county

The Sun Belt Conference’s Women’s Golf Championship is back in Baldwin County for a fifth time in its 33-year history and has returned to Alabama for the 11th time overall. The last four champions have been crowned at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida.

According to the conference record book, the 1992 tournament was hosted at Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores and GlenLakes in Foley hosted the 1995 championship before Loxley’s Steelwood Country Club played host to the 2014 and 2015 finals. The championship has also been hosted six times at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Muscle Shoals (2008, 2010-2013, 2017).
