Summerdale ready for Severe Weather Tax Holiday

SUMMERDALE — During its regular meeting last week, the Summerdale Town Council voted to participate in next month’s Severe Weather Tax Holiday.

“This is similar to the school-tax-free day,” Summerdale Mayor David Wilson said before the vote, “when people can go purchase items in advance of severe weather and abate sales tax.”

According to the Alabama Department of Revenue, the state’s second annual event is set for Feb. 22-2r and abates statewide sales tax on severe-weather related items. By its vote last week, the Summerdale Council agreed to lift the town’s municipal sales tax, as well. It joins the town of Magnolia Springs in participation, as the town passed a resolution on the matter in November, and the city of Foley in participation, as the Foley City Council passed an ordinance last June to make participation a yearly event.
