Summerdale Police Chief reinstated following unspecified allegations

Posted

Summerdale officials held a special called meeting on Saturday, Sept. 19, to discuss the future of the town's police chief.

On Wednesday, Sept. 16, Summerdale Mayor Randy Farris placed Police Chief Michael Gaull on administrative leave for what city officials said were allegations against him. However, officials have not provided specific details on the allegations that led to Gaull being placed on administrative leave.

At the start of Saturday's special called meeting, Summerdale Town Council immediately went into an executive session that lasted around 45 minutes. After returning, council voted on whether to proceed on a disciplinary hearing, but the motion did not receive majority support in order to move forward.

Gaull has not been informed about what the allegations are. Farris said he would have to personally request them.

"The mayor said that if Chief Gaull wants to request what those allegations were, then he would give that to them, but I will leave that to Chief Gaull to disclose that to the public if he so chooses," Summerdale Attorney Reynolds Sorrell said, adding that he can't comment on how many allegations there are.

Because town council did not proceed with any disciplinary action on Saturday, Gaull will be reinstated as police chief, but an exact date for when he would return to work was not provided.

Mayor Farris declined to comment, walking straight into the private offices in the municipal complex as reporters attempted to ask him questions following Saturday's special called meeting.
