SUMMERDALE — Summerdale has a new police chief.

During Tuesday’s Summerdale Town Council workshop, Mayor David Wilson announced that Jimmy Davis was selected for the position and will start Monday.

Davis will come to Summerdale from his position as sergeant with the Fairhope Police Department.

“He worked with the Fairhope Police Department for 20 years full-time,” Wilson said. “He also worked part-time with Gulf Shores and Fairhope.”

The mayor added that prior to his law-enforcement career, Davis served four years in the Marine Corps.

Selected from among approximately 30 applicants, Davis fills the vacancy left by the resignation of Eddie Ingram in April.

During Tuesday’s workshop, Wilson suggested funding the addition of new uniforms, new laptop computers and three radar guns to the Summerdale Police Department once Davis takes office.

“We also need to evaluate and establish rules of the firing range,” he said.
