SUMMERDALE, Ala. - The Summerdale Police Department reports a total of 49 arrests for the month of July.

Forty six of the arrests were misdemeanors, with 19 of the misdemeanors DUI or drug related. "Since I've been here, we've made eight arrests for drugs," Summerdale Police Chief Frankie "Eddie" Ingram said. "We're definitely fixing to get to work on the drugs within the town limits."

The majority of the drug activity seen by the department has been prescription medication and marijuana, Ingram said.

There were 15 warrants served in the month and three felony arrests. The department responded to 1,122 service calls and issued 402 traffic citations. There were 396 traffic stops.

The arrests and service call totals are each higher than the totals for the month of June. There was a total of 40 arrests and 518 service calls in June. There were fewer traffic stops than in June but a higher number of citations issued after Summerdale Police Chief Frankie "Eddie" Ingram said the 55 mph speed limit on Alabama 59 through Summerdale would be more strictly enforced by officers.
