Summerdale meth arrests made

SUMMERDALE — An investigation into a child welfare case has resulted in two meth-lab arrests.

According to Summerdale Police Chief Eddie Ingram, at approximately 7:30 p.m. Sunday, police received an anonymous call regarding the welfare of two children staying at American RV Park in Summerdale.

“The caller stated that there were two small children present inside a camper trailer located inside American RV Park where methamphetamine was being manufactured by two adult males,” he said in a news release.

Upon investigation, officers located the camper in question and smelled methamphetamine and saw toxic gas emitting from the air-conditioning unit.

“Officers were able to hear voices inside and determined that the occupants were in the process of manufacturing meth,” Ingram said. “Officers then approached the only door going into the camper and found that it had been pad locked from the outside, thus locking the two males and possibly the children inside.”

He explained that officers then knocked on the camper door and subsequently heard the suspects attempting to destroy evidence.

“Officers were hindered in entering the camper due to the pad-locked door,” Ingram said. “Eventually, one of the suspects had to kick the door open from the inside to gain their freedom and allow authorities inside.”

Upon entering the camper, the police chief said, police found the meth lab and recovered additional evidence that had been flushed down the camper’s toilet. The officers also found that although two children reportedly live at the camper, they were not on site at the time.

Ingram said that Summerdale Police arrested 34 year-old Damon Levi New of Indianapolis and 32 year-old Craig Roberts Gentry of Dallas.

“Both are charged with manufacturing methamphetamine in the second degree and currently being held in the Baldwin County Jail. Other charges are pending further investigation.

No additional information about the suspects or the children living in the trailer was available at press time.
